Simple wood ZIP code signs make great house warming gifts. They also are great sellers at local craft shows!
This vintage-look ZIP code sign measures 12″ long by 5″ wide.
Cut list from 1×3 furring strips: 2) 12″ long 2) 5″ long
To make the wood sign: Staple short pieces on top of long pieces (staple from the back so you don’t have the staples showing)
Paint 1 light coat of paint. Distress with sandpaper.
Cut your stencil onto 5×7 sized vinyl. (Number size is 3 inches tall.)

After cutting your zip code stencil, place it on the sign to make sure it fits.

Apply transfer tape to stencil.

Peel off backing of stencil, making sure no blue parts pull up.

Press stencil firmly on sign and remove transfer paper.

Apply a light coat of Mod Podge to seal edges to prevent bleeding.

Dry brush paint on. Since I’m going for a vintage, distressed look I do not want a solid coat of paint.

After the paint dries, peel of the stencil and weed any remaining pieces.

All done! Attach a wire backing to hang or leave as is for a shelf sitter.
