Make your own patriotic American flags with scrap wood that you can find just about anywhere. This craft costs almost nothing to make and takes just minutes!
The wood dimensions are flexible, so if you don’t have any wood like this, just use what you have!
Lumber:
2×3 construction lumber cut at 5.25 inches long
2×6 construction lumber cut at 6 inches long
If you don’t have construction lumber, regular dimensional wood that is 3/4″ thick works too. The 1 1/2 thickness wood stands up better on its own.
Supplies:
- Red, white and blue paint
- sandpaper (any grit)
Tools used:
- miter saw

Cut your 2×3 at 5 inches long and your 2×6 at 6 inches long. (The actual dimensions of the 2×3 is 1.5″ thick by 2.5″ wide. The 2×6 is actually 1.5″ thick by 5.25″ wide.)

Sand the edges.

Start painting the base coats. I painted the bigger piece in white. Start by painting the edges and then the face.

Paint your small piece blue for its base coat.
Take your white brush and slightly add some paint to the dried blue piece.
Then take your blue brush and lightly add some blue strokes to the white piece.

After the blue and white dries, dap some red on a brush and on its edge and paint some light horizontal strokes. Don’t get too much paint on your brush, just start with a small amount.

After the red paint dried, take some sandpaper and lightly go over the edges again.
This craft is so much fun to make! Try it yourself!
