Build your own rustic wood nativity set with a 2×2 furring strip!
With just a few basic tools you can add a perfect natural looking nativity set to your Christmas decor or make to sell at holiday craft shows.
Tools used:
- Miter saw
- Drill
- Sander
Supplies:
- 2×2 furring strip (actual dimensions are 1.5″x1.5″)
- 2 inch trim head screws
- sandpaper

Cut list for the 2×2 is as follows:16″
1 @ 16″
2 @ 10″
2 @ 7″
The 7 and 10 inch pieces have one end cut at a 22.5 degree angle

Sand each piece

To start assembling: start with the legs on the base. Leave a 1″ overhang on each side.

Use 2 inch long trim head screws to attach. Put one in each leg

Countersink the screws. If you are using regular head screws, do not counter sink so you don’t split the wood.

To connect the top two pieces, the screw will be at an angle. Lay it out and visualize before drilling.

Check to make sure the overhangs on the top pieces is even on each side. Once laid out, drill one screw down into leg.

Add a second screw to the legs on the bottom. This will stop the legs from rotating.

Feel free to sand more once you’ve assembled it!
