Make lots of fun memories in your backyard on a budget with these easy wood yard dice!

Get a 4×4 white timber for this project. Not a treated post, you don’t want to be cutting or sanding treated lumber and releasing the chemicals from it. So make sure it’s untreated white timber.

Measure and cut 6 pieces at 3.5 inches. (do not mark all at once. Measure, cut. Measure, cut.)

Sand edges and any sharp corners

Time to apply stain! I am using Minwax Simply White for a white washed look. I apply with a brush and then wipe off with a rag. Let dry for a few hours, in the sun preferably.

Use a 3/4 round sponge brush to paint on the numbers. Make sure your brush has plenty of paint and slightly twist when you apply it. Paint on 3 sides, let dry and then continue the other 3 sides. Use a real dice as an example or pull up a photo on your phone to look at. Opposite sides of the dice always equal 7.
